Here is my entry for Planet Dolan’s, Dolan Kart art contest. Tasked with designing a dark/spooky themed skin for a member of the PD cast for their mobile-app racing game. Here I’ve drawn Zaraganba dressed as Aussie outlaw, Ned Kelly, in all his armoured glory! Complete with purple Cassowary steed. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from drawing this, it’s that I bloody love that purple cassowary.
I’ve included a speed-paint video with commentary detailing the thoughts and process behind the design. Honesty, I don’t know what people are going to make of my first speed-paint with a commentary. But just like when I did the Lord Shen Documentary all those years ago, I’m curious and willing to take the risk. I put a lot of thought and work into this piece that I felt the need to talk about it. #DolanKart
Just the other night, I found out I’m one of the finalists!!! I’m so excited!!! I’m so honoured to be put alongside all these other incredible designs. You can vote for me by following this link and clicking on ‘(4) Ned Zaraganba”. Even though I’m not likely to win at this stage, so make it this far out of SO MANY entries is just such a tremendous victory in and of itself. <3
Votes will close on 18th May.

Post-Intober 2020 Musings
Inktober 2020 was a lot of fun, but still one hell of a challenge. I’m glad this year’s really pushed me outside of my comfort zones. Allowed me to dip my toes into new subjects or ones I was out of practice with: Like extreme perspectives, landscapes, horror, romance, new characters etc. Plus always it’s good to be reminded exactly why pen and ink is my favourite traditional medium to work with. Given the wide variety of materials and methods of applying ink to paper and create the desired textures and effects. All the things I love to see in work done by professionals I look up to. I even had more coloured inks to try out. For that, and getting all 31 days done, I feel proud of myself. ‘Proud as I am, I can’t help but think my pieces at the start of the month are better than the ones at the end.By that time, I was eager to just get finished a couple days early. If I could do something differently, it would be to take my time with the later prompts. I certainly feel like I’ve
So, about this Inktober controversy...
I suppose I was going to address this sooner or later. It’s not been an easy month trying to mull this one over, but it was best that I took the time to mull things over. Amidst all the extreme reactions flying around. https://leomitchellart.tumblr.com/post/629785716623327232/so-about-this-latest-inktober-controversy
Little update given current situations
So today marks the last time in a while I attend the art group. Only 6 of us even showed up. Really, we only got so much art done. This was more a case to talk about all this madness that’s happening and what we’re going to do. We have eachother’s numbers, so all we can do is wait this out until things calm down.
The virus has made this an upsetting week and shot my anxiety through the roof. Seeing the group, seeing my old neighbour and being able to get two bottles of milk made me feel a lot better. I’m ready to continue quarantine.
I’m more than prepared when it comes to cleanliness, supplies, health, and I k
Halfway done with Inktober
Well, I have officially reached the halfway point with Inktober! I can’t wait to get it all completed.
Last night was easily the most taxing of this month. Trying to finish my entry for the Bendy & the Ink Machine art contest and do that day’s Inktober piece. I woke up at 5:00am and was up past midnight to get everything done and submitted on time. I could’ve had everything done hours sooner. But for a couple of days, I’ve been having trouble with Photoshop. It just kept crashing every couple of minutes. Sometimes even while saving. Or even not open the files. That’s what delayed everything for so long. It w
